MealFlour is currently working in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala, but we soon hope to expand to other areas in Guatemala as well as to other countries.
MealFlour and the Xela Community:
Primeros Pasos is a grassroots, community health clinic that provides health and education services to the ten K’iche’ Maya communities of the Palajunoj Valley at little to no cost. Primeros Pasos runs a Nutrition Recuperation Program that provides weekly nutrition and cooking classes for mothers in the valley. Through our partnership with the nutrition program, starting in Candelaria, MealFlour will teach classes on the importance and protein and also introduce mealworm farming to Xela's surrounding communities.
La Mandarina is a healthy bakery located in the historic district of Xela. MealFlour works with La Mandarina to run a nutrition and cooking class in coordination with Primeros Pasos to teach women how to make nutritious foods that incorporate mealworm powder. In the Spring of 2017, MealFlour will also be partnering with La Mandarina to provide protein-rich muffins to daycares and schoolchildren.
